Side By Side
1228 Parkway Art Space reopens to the public with a show of paintings by James Koskinas and Julie Schumer.
August 20, 2021 5p.m. to 8 p.m.
August 21 & 22, 2021, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m
1228 Parkway Art Space, the studio home of Julie Schumer and James Koskinas, who paint together side by side, will host the first exhibition of their works since the COVID 19 Pandemic.
Schumer will be showing larger format abstract paintings that are at once edgy, bold and dynamic yet atmospheric, with great depth and mystery, integrating appearing and disappearing lines, shapes and color. Schumer is a classic abstract expressionist, painting spontaneously, letting each stroke guide her to the next. Although inspired by her surroundings her work is an excavation of her own internal landscape.
Koskinas , a long time painter of expressionist human portraits, as well as horses with riders, will showcase his new horse “portraits” reflecting his unending fascination with the shape of the head of a horse and its many expressions, along with his new series of horses in motion. These striking paintings show Koskinas’s unique and diverse expression of the horse form.
1228 Parkway Art Space, 1228 Parkway Drive, Unit F, Santa Fe, at the corner of Parkway Drive and Rufina St. steps from Meow Wolf, in the heart of the Siler Arts District. Admission is free. Plenty of free parking is available.
1228 Parkway Art Space is the studio home of painters Julie Schumer and James Koskinas who exhibit their work locally and nationally. The pair also teach various risk taking, expressive abstract painting workshops, occasionally including a guest artist instructor. Their workshops are designed to challenge and loosen up both the beginning and advanced artist alike.
